The last three months have seen progresses made on various fronts.
First, we will be able to communicate in a much easier fashion thanks to our new site. All readers are invited to give us their comments, suggestions or criticisms about it.
Then, various projects have advanced thanks to unexpected financial help from two NGOs, one from Germany and the other from the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. As a matter of fact, both of them sought our cooperation in providing school material and furniture to "our" Tierra Blanca (Santa Barbara), as well as in the refection of classrooms in Todos Santos Cuchumatan, which is not far from our usual base. Both interventions will leave us some intermediary commissions from them to increase our treasury.
In Santa Barbara, an apprentice workshop for dressmakers has just started last Saturday.
In Xayomlaj, the apprentice workshop for bakers has proved satisfactory for two young girls who found jobs in bakeries, but insufficient to establish a going concern to sell bread of quality to the community. Therefore, we will have to give those young people a proper responsible frame thanks to the supervision of adults.
The school library in Santa Barbara is taking shape after the delivery of one unit of shelves, the rest of them will be made by the local people with the material that we provide. Books are being received there regularly. The librarian in charge will have to be trained as well.
Regarding the operative projects, 25 containers of water of a capacity of 750 liters each were delivered to 25 families in a state of extreme poverty in 4 different communities. These containers were installed by the municipality.
Finally, last but not least, the shirts of the Swiss national football team have been donated by someone who has even taken the trouble to deliver them personnally to Guatemala. Let's hope that these happy children will learn to shout "Hop Schwiiz!" in Jacalteko (one of the 22 Maya languages of Guatemala) till June, when the world championship will take place in South Africa.
A final word to say that I remain at your disposal if you are interested in organizing lectures about the Maya civilization, studied through archaelogy and epigraphy.

Rapport d'opérations de l'hiver 2009-2010
Les trois derniers mois ont vu des progrès réalisés sur divers fronts.
Tout d'abord, nous allons pouvoir communiquer de manière beaucoup plus aisée gràce à notre nouveau site. A ce sujet, tous les lectrices et lecteurs sont invités à nous faire part de leurs commentaires, suggestions ou critiques.
Puis plusieurs projets ont avancé grâce à une aide financière inattendue de la part de deux ONGs, l'une d'Allemagne et l'autre du Tessin. En fait, toutes deux ont cherché notre collaboration pour fournir du matériel didactique et du mobilier scolaire à "notre" Tierra Blanca (Santa Barbara), pour la première, ainsi que pour la refection d'une école à Todos Santos Cuchumatan, qui ne se trouve pas loin de notre base habituelle, pour la seconde. Ces deux interventions vont nous laisser quelque commission d'intermédiaire pour accroître notre trésor de guerre.
A Santa Barbara, un atelier d'apprentissage de couturières vient de s'ouvrir samedi dernier.
A Xayomlaj, le stage en atelier d'apprentis-boulangères s'est avéré satisfaisant pour deux jeunes filles qui ont pu être embauchées dans des boulangeries, mais insuffisant pour établir un commerce vendant un pain de qualité à la communauté. C'est pourquoi, nous devons donner à ces jeunes un cadre adécuat et responsable sous la supervision d'adultes.
La bibliothéque scolaire de Santa Barbara prend forme après la livraison des premiers rayons de livres. Le reste des meubles sera fabriqué par la communauté. Des livres sont reçus là régulièrement. Le responsable de la bibliothèque aura à être formé.
En ce qui concerne les projets productifs, 25 récipients d'eau d'une capacité de 750 litres chacun ont été remis à 25 familles, en état d'extrême pauvreté, dans 4 hameaux de Santa Barbara. Ces récipients ont été installés par la communauté.
Finalement, last but not least, les maillots de l'équipe nationale suisse de football ont été donnés par quelqu'un qui a même pris la peine de les livrer personnellement au Guatemala. Il ne reste qu'à espérer que leurs heureux bénéficiaires vont apprendre à crier "Hop Schwiiz!" en Jacalteko (une des 22 langues maya du Guatemala) d'ici au mois de juin, date du championnat du monde.
